Looks like this is the actual issue:
After removing 'configure', it's apparent that 'autogen.sh' doesn't
regenerate it, instead giving ambiguous errors/warnings..
For anyone else's reference, this occurs with
autoconf 2.68
automake 1.9.6 + 1.11.1
glib 2.26.1
gtk 2.22.1
