The folks at dailymotion.com have made an OLPC (prototype) version of
their web site that displays in Ogg (test at olpc.dailymotion.com). Is
there a way for their ActionScript to be able to tell which codecs are
available to the flash player? Or to easily and quickly ask if Ogg
(or FLV) is available?
If so, they could put this support on their main web site.
(Of course his comment below to assume no flash player is wrong, and their
prototype XO site uses flash. But on my XO the scroll/buffer bar doesn't work
(this seems common in gnash in my experience; dunno if it's one underlying
method failing or what).)

I agree with you when it comes to different web browsers on different OS.
However this is true only if the purpose of the web site stays the same.
Which is not the case for me. I would like to display videos encoded in ogg
with content and an interface more appropriate to the kids. That's why if a
user is coming to dailymotion.com through the XO, I would like to be able to
redirect him to the appropriate version of the web site because I will make
the assumption that he has no flash plugin, no patented codecs and he is a
kid between 6 and 16 years old.
