I suspect that is why. If there are many ways to do things, the community will likely want to settle on a subset of them. Hence the term "idiom", which also gets a lot of use in Perl. Consider these three English sentences: - That is Fred's pencil. - That pencil belongs to Fred. - That is the pencil of Fred. All three mean the same thing, but the first is by far the most common in American English. Perl is a lot like English.
