There's a pledge going on here for folks who want to pledge $300 to buy a "$100" OLPC laptop:

The idea is that your $300 purchase funds two additional laptops in the field. Even $300 seems like a pretty good deal on the hardware, though it probably won't be your primary machine, but I'd love to load up GCompris for my daughter on one.

Nicholas Negroponte is not affiliated with this pledge and is currently not interested in private sector funding of the laptops. This pledge is also somewhat of an attempt to prove that there's an alternative to big-government funding for this kind of charity work. If the pledge reaches its goal it represents a $20M pot of money for the project representing an additional 200,000 laptops in the field. Granted, it's a small dent in the 1.8 billion they need to produce.
