   You don't need to use Athlon MP chips for a SMP box, but you should.  
In order to make newer Athlon XP's do SMP you have to first void your
warranty with a soldering iron. :(
   The older ones (<1900+ ?) will run on a dual board without
modification, but it's not "supported."  There could be problems, and AMD
would probably laugh at you if you called for tech support.  Personally
I'd just use the MP chips.  If you buy a few notches from the top, the
XP->MP price gap isn't that large.
