The PDF files can be built quite easily using the existing XML files and a program Tim Waugh works on called "xmlto".

However.

The xmlto generated PDFs look terrible. Why? Two reasons. 1) Because we still have a bunch of images that are wider than the recommended maximum number of pixels, so they stick out off the page. 2) Some of the images have transparent parts, and xmlto cannot deal with them, and the transparent part looks bad.

Anyway, I was holding off on putting the PDF files until I (or someone) fixes the images appropriately.
