*Where East Looks West: Success in English in Goa and on the Konkan Coast*, published by Multilingual Series, Clevedon, UK, 2003, pp. 158, is authored by Dennis Kurzon, Professor of English Linguistics at Haifa University, in Israel. The author has had 20 years of experience of conducting TOEFL examinations in English as Foreign Language, and comes to the conclusion that Konkani speakers, particularly from Goa, do extremely well in such exams. He analyses the historical and sociolinguistic implications of this phenomenon. The book would be an excellent reading and acquisition for any Goan wanting to know better his community and its talents.
