Looks very beautiful. It was to start at 9.30 till 0030hrs. But the previous programe Natya sangit got over at around 10.10pm and the Orchestra was set up by 10.30 but they did no play anything at all. Something was holding them up- No body knew what's happening. It was 11oclock, still nothing happening. All we could see that the Panjim Shigmo Committee members were on their cell phones trying to sort something out. It appear that they either had Mixing (Sound system) problem or the local police complaint about the noise pollution. No one bothers to let the audience know. People started leaving and at 11pm there were about 75 people left. We don’t know if the orchestra ever started at all. Everyday for 5 days, there is an orchestra (except 14th) starting at 9.30pm till 12.20am as per the programe schedule, Perhaps, the noise pollution law or the 10 o’clock dead line does not apply to Shigmo celebrations What’s shigmo Parade or floats like? It is essentially, a Hindu religious event. All floats depicts Hindu mythological God and Goddesses from the Epic Ramayana and Mahabharata. Giant Gods/Goddesses and their Avtars such as Ram, Laxman, Sita, Ravan, Krishna, Vishnu, Kumbakaran, Hanuman, Draupadi, Kurushetra, Horse Chariots, bow n arrow,Chakra, Snakes, eagles, Fishes, Cow, monsters, narkasurs etc etc Whatever it is, as said before, I like it more than the carnivalfloats. Lot’s of efforts, skills and handwork is put in by the youth to make it look real. It’s very expensive affair too. I guess they get sponsorship from Goa’s top businessmen Shigmo Parade essentially and nocturnal event with special light effects. Each float has its one generator and one float may have upto 5 trucks or trailers It usually starts at 6.30pm and by the time the last float reach the terminating point i.e. Azad Maidan it almost 11.30pm. The traditional starting point is at Campal opp Kala Academy. Route being old Employment exchange, Caculo Island, Goa Pharmacy college or the entire 18 June Road. It will then take the road leading to Azad Maidan from near the Panjim Municipal Garden.. This year’s Top prize is Rs. 45,000 in each city. There are many other prizes too for different catagories.
