If what you say is true, than what prompted our politicians to build the Konkan Railway (a technological 'marvel', but a financial and environmental disaster)? We have a rail-track which can't grow without a further phenomenal investment. I believe, were it not for Madhu Dandavate, and, George Fernandes, the cries of the Konkan, for a railway, would *never* have been answered. Incidentally, the Konkan Railway is an *engineering* marvel. The technology has been around for a long, long time. An environmental disaster? As is almost all *human* activity in the *modern* world. The perspective is important. A financial *blackhole*? Are the CAG reports available? If I recall correctly, all opposition to the Konkan Railway, in Goa, fizzled out, after the announcement of the issue of *Tax Free* bonds by the Konkan Railway Corporation. Konkan Railway *bashing* seems to be another sport on Goanet. Akin to a religion with the theme being *See, but, refuse to believe*. The Konkan Railway upset the apple cart of so many vested interests in Goa. Rightly so. The Konkan Railway Corporation seems to have delivered what it promised. A high speed, high frequency railway track. That the track is built to withstand trains travelling at 160 kmph has been proved in the recent trial runs. Believe the responsibility for under utilization of the track lies with the *Railway Minister* and not the Konkan Railway. Now, back to the Skybus... So Skybus can operate at 8000 to 80,000 pphpd seamlessly, and can be used as both feeder as well as primary high capacity option for urban transport. But then difference between the conventional metro rail and Skybus system is that: normal metro railway cannot be guaranteed against derailments and capsizing , which in a city area is very disastous as compared to outside the city. But the Skybus metro technology is such that the train can never derail nor capsize- so the safest railway known in the world! Skybus Metro Technolgy- see video and more details at www.atrilab.com Carrying 400 persons within 20m length makes access stations elegant small structures almost like bus stops, with easy access from the existing foot paths.Hardly needing any urban land, will not displace any habitat- can be designed for 20m radius of turning, and even vertical lifts, gives total fexibility to the Urban Planners. Further the capital and running costs have been shown through actual test track construction, to be such that Financial Internal Rate of Return is of the order of 15%. That means Urban projects for transport can be executed through private funding adopting BOT option and without need for Government subsidy. Pray do not endanger the cities with elevated metro systems while impoverishing the community! Those technical experts on whom Government is relying for advice, are committing fraud on the nation by forcing over-priced , under performing metro rails while using their full force of influence to subvert more competetive and safer India's own Skybus technology, to serve foreign collaborators's interest!
