This will be in force during the monsoon season "to ensure safety of passengers while maintaining punctuality as per revised timings". See full details at http://www.konkanrailway.com/website/press_2005/press_monsoon_ttbl_300405.htm Trains are expected to ply slower in this season. In June 2003, a major monsoon mishap on the Konkan Railway killed over 50 persons. The faster-plying 2051 Dadar-Margao Janshatabdi Express will run only on Monday, Thursday, and Saturday -- instead of daily. Likely, the same train in the reverse direction will also ply on only three days. The Okha-Ernakulam Express will be "partly cancelled" between Hapa and Okha. Mangalore-Verna passenger won't ply between Margao and Verna. Timings of a number of trains have been pre-poned, apparently to make up for slower running of trains. It evolved out of an international conference held in Goa, India in 1986, which brought together over 70 men and women working with grass-roots development projects and agencies in different Commonwealth countries. At that conference it became clear that the fight against poverty and disadvantage, against inequality and ill health, against exclusion was a common concern and that the tools and strategies used around the world were much the same. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/goatpgang/ The Goa time pass gang is a group of cousins that would hang out in Goa at the Borkar residence during the summer holidays and now reside outside India.
