A 19-year-old girl was caught red-hand while impersonating

said the girl, named Dhond, is a resident of Borda in neighbouring
Fatorda constituency and was impersonating a female voter. She was
caught impersonating by the polling agents of the Congress. GYPC
president Guirish Chodankar said, "We decided not to initiate action
against the girl following requests from the BJP candidate,
Sharmad Raiturkar and also from Digambar Kamat." District Election
Officer South J B Singh later told newsmen that no official
complaint stands received from any quarter about bogus voting,
and the number of such cases would not cross 10. (Herald)

STRONG EDITORIAL COMMENT IN GOMANTAK TIMES is titled 'Mr Parrikar,
it's time to go home now'. It reads: "Dismissing these polls just as
a mere chase for power will be missing the wood for the trees. These
elections were about a shot at freedom. From fear. From hatred. From
suspicion. And above all, from a man called Manohar Parrikar, who
has raised deceit and falsehood to the level of a fine art. This
election was all about destroying this con artist." It goes on to
add: "...(the) Margao by-election is given a totally communal colour
when Hindus were asked to protect the sanctity of Margao's presiding
deity Lord Damodar by defeating Digambar.... Thousands of unemployed
were promised permanent employment through the pre-employment scheme
but the transition from unemployment to employment could never
happen because Parrikar made too many promises when there were too
few jobs." Feedback to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

NO UK VISA IF SINGLE AND MARRIAGEABLE? Are you Indian, single and of
marriageable age? Then give up your idea of visiting Britain, because you
will not be allowed in. That is, reportedly, the illegal policy which has
been operated by the British Immigration staff based in India and Jamaica,
according to the independent watchdog which monitors issuing of UK visas.
Immigration lawyer Fiona Lindsley, who discovered this practice, has called
for a stop to it. She has told ministers that it no more than an illegal
attempt to limit the opportunities for Indians and Jamaicans to meet British
citizens, as it might lead to a marriage, according to The Guardian. (UNI)

CULINARY CORNER * Served special for Goanet, from Daisy Rodrigues, Calif.
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Today we are going to southern India to visit a land of great
natural and lush beauty -- I am of course talking about Kerala.
Kerala has a distinctive cuisine, very unusual and different from
the rest of India. Cooking in Kerala is all about discoveries,
aromas and colors. The cuisine is very hot and spicy and offers
several gastronomic opportunities to those willing to experiment
        with this type of cuisine.

Here is a very spicy yet tasty dish from Kerala: Meen Moilee (Fish Moilee)

250 grams of white fish (or about 8 ounces) -cleaned
Tamarind -- soak a small ball in hot water
1 large onion-sliced
1 large tomato -- sliced
Small bunch of curry leaves
3 teaspoons of red chili powder
1/2 teaspoon of coriander powder
1/4 teaspoon of turmeric powder
1/4 teaspoon of fenugreek powder
2 tablespoons of coconut oil
1/2 inch ginger
4 cloves of garlic
Salt to taste
Pinch of mustard seeds

Clean the fish, drain and keep aside. Mix the red chili, coriander,
turmeric & fenugreek powders with a little water to make a smooth paste.
Heat oil in a pan, toss in the mustard seeds, when they start sputtering,
add fenugreek seeds, sliced onions, ginger, garlic, tomatoes, curry leaves,
and the paste, one at a time and fry till oil separates. Add a tsp of
vinegar if desired. ( optional) Add tamarind extract and check the level of
sourness. When the water starts boiling, add the fish pieces, and salt. Add
enough water to cover the pieces. Cook on a low fire. When the pieces are
almost cooked, increase the heat and cook till the gravy thickens, and the
oil is visible. Serve hot with rice.
