It grew out of a training workshop on editing organised by Victor Rangel Ribeiro and Margaret Mascarenhas. For understandable reasons, and to keep it small and manageable, it doesn't have a very high public profile. If you'd want to join -- or have plans to make your writing grow in different directions, not just newswriting -- please contact my friend Jose F P Lourenco. Regards, FN PS: They're discussing *zines* at their next meet, an interesting concept. From: jose f p lourenco <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Writers' Meet - Sept 16th Hi friends, The meet on September 7 went off very well, with a discussion on Isabel's play on Abbe Faria 'Kator Re Bhaji', a preview of Jose's book 'The Parish Churches of Goa' and the welcome addition of Ana, introduced by Mafalda. Ana hails from Portugal, is a lawyer by qualification, but has worked in the field of art and alternative education. She will present her work in 'alternate media' and 'zines', which are compact magazines for limited circulation within a special interest group. This Meet will take place on the 16th September, 5 pm at Broadways, Panjim. I'm attaching Isabel's note on the last meet. Could anyone contact Rahul Alvares, I get bounces from his mail address everytime and couldn't get him on the phone either. Nita will be back by the 13th, so she'll make it this time. We are opening new angles with every meeting and with at least three of us taking part in the publishers' course by National Book Trust, we will soon be going great guns... -- " Hi Jose and writers' gang, Just saying thanks. Thanks for the generosity and for the interesting and relevant comments. It was all very useful to me. Reminds me of something Julia Cameron says in her book about artists, Walking in This World: "Our culture diminishes both art and artists. Art is secular now, mere ornament, where once it was central to civilized life... In our culture we must consciously build safe hatcheries for our art. We must become creative about being creative." ... I was much impressed with Jose's book on Churches in Goa. Wonderful quality of work. Cheers, --Isabel. --------------------------------------------------------------------- CULINARY CORNER: Healthy n fresh -- Chinese Chicken Salad --------------------------------------------------------------------- Chinese Chicken Salad -2 packets of Top Ramen chicken soup mix, 1 small head cabbage, shredded, 4 green onions/scallions (chopped), 1 cup of toasted almonds, 2 cups of cooked cubed chicken, Dressing - 1/2 cup vegetable oil, 2 tablespoons rice vinegar, 2 tablespoons sugar, 2 tablespoons soy sauce, flavor packets from soup, 2 tablespoons toasted sesame seeds.
