I forget his name, I think it was it was Peter D'Souza. But he had a couple of Goan friends online, and I used to make them come to the Goan channel on IRC. Once we had a group of about three of us used to talk quite a lot. The girl whom he knew was the daughter of the former Indian high commissioner to Kenya, Placido D'Souza, Maria D'Souza. > --- Peter D'Souza <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > I'm not sure if you know this, Placido D'Souza's daughters, Lucia and > > Maria, used to chat regularly with Goanet's founder Herman Carneiro on > > the Internet Relay Chat (IRC) back in 1993-1994. And here's some background: Despite what it might seems, Goans have skills at diplomacy too.Placido D'Souza (b.1933) was ambassador to a large number of countries, including in the West Indies, Panama, Zaire, New York, Port of Spain, Hong Kong and Nairobi. Another diplomat of Goan origin, Peter Lynn Sinai (b.1933) topped the competitive exams in 1956. http://www.geocities.com/athens/forum/1503/eminent-goans.html There's also this: FORMER INDIAN AMBASSADOR of Goan origin Placido D'Souza, from Pune/Anjuna and currently visiting the US, recalls he did a portrait of Pope John Paul II when he visited Saint Lucia in the Caribbean in 1986. At that time, D'Souza was Indian high commissioner in Trinidad and Tobago with jurisdiction over 11 countries and territories in the Caribbean. He had been invited to Saint Lucia for the Pope's visit. One of his hobbies has been sketching and painting. His work has been published in a small book called 'Portraits of Power', meant for private circulation. Other works he have done include those of UN former Secretary general Javier Perez de Cuellar, Nelson Mandela and several Indian leaders. He offered to help, and put Albuquerque in touch with an influential Goan there Dr Fitz D'Souza. http://www.goacom.org/news/news99/may/msg00031.html And: Placido D'Souza (b.1933) was ambassador to a large number of countries, including in the West Indies, Panama, Zaire, New York, Port of Spain, Hong Kong and Nairobi. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_people_from_Goa Here's his son, another high achiever (noted on that useful resource goanvoice.org.uk) : Cognizant Announces Management Succession Plan 2 Aug: PR Newswire. Though I try to share my writing with cyberspace, this could not be found. It is a pleasure to have such eminent persons share their writings with Goanet.
