Effectively, the chief minister has branded us as a class which is less than educated, without intellect, poorly paid and hence unable to do our jobs right. Parrikar's comments made on Sunday: "What is a reporter's salary...How much does a news reader earn? Maybe 25,000 (rupees). They are mostly graduates. They are not great thinkers...intellectuals. They write news how they understand it," COMMENT: 1: Welcome to the realm of politics. It is election season. As in cricket, one side bowls appat-balls (bouncers), the other side goes for the hook shot. Those who cannot face genuinely fast bowling should not turn up to bat. 2: Does Mr. Nagvenkar believe that he, personally, has been impartial in his writings and those photo-whatever? If not, What is all this whining in aid of? 3: Instead of the whine, could Mr. Nagvenkar advise us WHY those comments about 'Reporters and News readers' were inaccurate? 4: Could he, for instance, direct us to some intellectual stuff that Goa 'Reporters and News readers' have written (say) in the past 6 months? 5: Also, what have they written (say) about the alleged-Potency Test administered in the Tejpal case? Do they think that the so-called Rape laws in India are sound? (This is not to say that inappropriate behaviour towards women or men is ever appropriate. Don't know why all the Jokers come to Goa and make Ghann?) 6: Am I to understand that Goa 'Reporters and News readers' in 2014 have not studied beyond the Bachelor's level and have not even written a Masters level thesis? 7: Over the past two decades, Goa has been experiencing what it has been experiencing. What substantive and researched articles have the Goa 'Reporters and News readers' written about it. Good God! Look at what JoeGoaUK has documented and what these 'Reporters and News readers' have (or have not). 8: Any stories about the woes of Catholic pilgrims consistently being denied access to the historic Anjediva church? 9: 'We' write from A-Z about others, but do 'we' give them a fair chance to respond? 'We' criticize this one and that one. We even rush to print. But do we also print posts critical of what 'we' write? 10: I can agree that Mr. Parrikar taunted ''Reporters and News readers'. It is 'the big league'. Get used to it. BTW, was Mr. Parrikar's taunt really bitter? Why do you say so? 11: Were those comments demeaning? On the face of it and without examining the entire context in which those comments were made, I'd say: YES. NO human being should be dumped upon just because he/she only earns 25000 or goes to work in sandals. 12:. Buck up guys and definitely upgrade yourselves. Unlike bangles gifted, respect is earned. BTW: I trust 'we' kept a few of the bangles for 'ourselves', jc
