Justice R.M. Lodha who recently retired as the Chief Justice of India must be lauded for his firm decision not to seek or accept any post retirement posting from the Government. He has rightly expressed a very unyielding view that there must be at least a two year cooling period before any retired Judge of the Supreme Court or High Court takes up any constitutional post.
On the flip side the other former Chief Justice of India P. Sathasivam who had retired on 26th April this year, was swiftly groomed by the Narendra Modi led NDA and on September 5th sworn in as the Governor of Kerala. Does it not send a wrong message to other Judges due to retire that if they remain in good books with the government, a plumb post retirement lollipop is assured.
