The song was written by a duo travelling by a Southern Railways Birmingham
Special train from New York City to Chattanooga, Tennessee. The inspiration
came from the small wood-burning locomotive that now rests in a museum.

Recorded by the Glenn Miller Orchestra in the big band swing style in 1941, it
became a war-time favourite. This rendition is by the Trio Ladies who sing in
tribute to the Andrew Sisters and are backed by the Vaselines, a Scottish band.
