Dr Jack De Sequeira memorial Award The well wishers of PC Trust from Chinchinim initiated the memorial award for topper at SSC.GBSHSE. The legislators past and present, including political eminent persons were personally , thro post ,emissaries,even mailed duplicate appeals to respond by 15 February 2024..Even symbolic response to the the appeal was nil ,except for Prof.Sakhardande unexpected generosity.As collectively and out of power berate the Govt for non observation / celebration of Opinion poll,inclusion in the syllabus,forget about his statue in the rightful place in the new Assembly Complex.Instead it is decorated with one who embarked on destroying the very identity of Goa by merger . The ignorig to participate in individual capacity in gratitude was sad and disappointing.In fact the only one who was first to inquire and volunteered to join was contacted in person 3 times besides mails in vain." Ask not what country can do but what you can do for the country" echoes loudly.If Goa was merged then there would be just 2 MLA's ,one MP. and one district Collector.Many of our political stalwarts would not have been even an MLA ' forget about being CM, deputy CM, Minister, Speaker etc al.Some conspirators even self certify as builders of Modern Goa. coferred with unprecedent state largasse.Ludicrous as one went on beyond politeness,decency to raise dust of controversy and the propriety of assigning the sobriquet of " Father of opinion poll" long after his demise and birth centenary of Dr Sequeira, a visionary whose unanimous acceptance of leadership earned unique identity of state of Goa , culture and language..The ungrateful, hypocrites and beneficiaries enjoy perks, privileges ,positions for lifetime of Goa being the state .The grateful Goans have unreservedly ,affectionately appropriated the tag of Father of opinion poll and will continue to adore him in their hearts and minds.for all times to come. Shayam Prassad Mukerjee and Atul setu ,Parikar have found a place of honour following in dynastic principles of recognition..Even Mathany Saldanha in contrast has found a niche .One may pointedly ask where and in which State of India Dr Sequeira will be recognised? How true a Saint is not granted the privilege of beig whorshipped in his own land.Do we shine brighter by putting out the light of others? By honouring others , we honour ourselves. Dr. Sequeira never even remotely sought crown of glory .He just faded away politically with honour and dignity . In fact after his defeat he resigned from politics in humility and did not believe in dying with boots on. He has never promoted selfinterests of creating an empire with his influence or dynastic digging in heels by the family.The statues at Calangute, Dona Paula, Merces, Ambelim, the naming of the road, the opinion poll square , the numerous CD' s that reverberate his achiements are all private intitiatives of grateful Goans.On his birth centenary the isolated event when Indian posts issued an commemorative stamp in his honour.The Trust in collaboration with personal friends ,admirers will never abandon the institution of an award as an alternative idea of propagating his memorable memory for bequeathing a legacy for posterity. No politicians worth the name has officially participated in any of his celebrations but it took CM,' s of Delhi , Punjab Shri Arvind Kejrival and Shri Bhagwant S Mann to pay homage at his statue at Ambelim South Goa on State visit . Dr Sequeira is a star shining on the political horizon of Goa,not subject to supernova effect .
