------------------- Dear Frederick, I don't recall anybody specifically mentioning MP3. Why are you making assumptions about the eventual format? There are varying degrees of sampling for any process that decide the eventual resemblance to the original. And of course there will be a loss in analogue to digital transformation or even analogue to analogue. That is bound to be with any recording process - so what is your point? What is more important is that these recordings be salvaged and archived in some format. On a related note I have heard time and again that the All India Radio studios at Altinho have vast archives of original Konkani music on LPs that are going to seed due to non-use or misuse. As in any Government institution the process of accessing these archives is tedious. A collaborative effort between Konkani music lovers, AIR and sound recording experts could help salvage these treasures. Cheers! Cecil =======
