KUWAIT CITY, Feb 19: With 7 teams participating in its inaugural season, the 2011 Indian Bowling League (IBL) Tenpin Bowling Tournament kicked off at the 300 Club Bowling Center in Bneid Al Ghar. With the sport gaining popularity among the Indian expatriates in Kuwait IBL gained enough support to finally start their own league. Suiting up to vie for the Season 1 title were West End Watches Company, Just Smile Bowligans, Marol Ball Burners, Loose Cannons, Striking Force and Peppers & Rodgers Group. Early favorites Just Smile composed of 300 Club mainstays together with West End Watches Company bannered by a bunch of veteran pin busters were off to a winning debut and are expected to dominate the qualifying round.

Bowling on lanes 5 and 6, the favored Just Smile pin crackers simply overpowered the beleaguered Striking Force en route to an easy 2849-2458 victory. Having a big edge due to their lane familiarity, Just Smile started rather slow and was made to flex their muscles before turning back their opponents in game one of the 3-game series match 868-830. Fully warmed up for the next game, the quintet of Mohammed Al Rashed, Yousef Al Huraibi, Salem Al Saif, Hamoud Al Rashed and Athari Foud overrun the defenseless Striking Force 967-808.

Now totally in control of the match, the rest of the Just Smile keglers namely Jassem Al Khandari, Aiza Cbanero and Dalal Al Khalifa went home smiling after completing a 3-game sweep with another impressive 959-820 win in game three. Bowling in this outing for the vanquished Striking Force were Cris Bulacja, Greg de Leon, Edwin de Mesa, Sarel de Leon, Khalil Al Salim, Jun Domigo, Romy Daus and Greggy de leon.

Joining the early leader just three marks behind were the time masters of West End Watches Company who cooled off Marol Ball Burners in an astonishing fashion. Packed with experienced bowlers who are mainstays of teams participating in other on-going bowling leagues, West End Watches Company literally stopped the clock on their rivals who woke up to a 2819-2344 defeat. Spearheaded by the five some of Nelson D’ Souza, Ulysses Menezes, Jason D’ Souza, Shirley Castellino and Joel Fernandes, West End claimed all three games on hand via 908-840, 922-720 and 964-782 game scores. Manning the lanes for Marol Ball Burners in their baptism of fire were Colin Costa, Brian Fernandes, Monali Jeremiah, Valentine Gonsalves and Anisha.

Meanwhile, Peppers & Roger Group maintained the winning order of the day by dishing out a similarly impressive 863-789, 961-747 and 803-762 three game sweep over the neophyte pin breakers of the Bowligans. In posting their walk in park 2652-2265 total pin falls victory Gloyne Fernandes, Marvin D’ Souza, Muriel Fernandes, Arlene Pinto, Merelyn Fernandes, Colin Pereira, Javed Ramdan, Karen Fenandes and Mudassir Tungekar carried the scoring load for Peppers & Roger Group. Suiting up for the Bowligans in this match were Samantha Fernandes, Jerry Picardo, Amaldo Fernandes, Anastesius Menezes, Celine Fernandes, Branden Pinto, Cristine D’ Souza, Nadine Dias and Julian D’ Silva. The only other participating team Loose Cannon who bowled all alone on lanes 3 and 4 garnered a total score 2345 pin falls through the combined scores of Samantha Sequiera, Visakh Khrisnakumar, Jegy George, Kamran Shaikh, Amanda Fernando, Hammad al Mullah and Ramona Suarez.

The team standings after the opening week of the event are as follows (read as rank, team name and total pin falls) 1. Just Smile-2849, 2. West End Watches Company-2819, 3.
