(1) In yet another ill-thought move the Manohar Parrikar government has introduced in the Legislative Assembly the Goa Medicare Service Personnel and Medicare Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage or Loss to Property) Bill, 2013. (2) There is already a law which deals with matters relating to destruction of public property and also provisions for assault on public servants in discharge of their duties. Hence Government hospitals and doctors therein, already stand protected. (3) One fails to understand why this very biased discrimination by only singling out the medical fraternity. Would this not amount to discrimination in violation of Article 14 of the Constitution? Don't all citizens need protection alike? (4) The doctor’s career like every other profession is today no longer a mission but more of a business venture. (5) Unless of course, the Government desires to now protect quacks and incompetent medical practitioners. Dear all, These days there are all kinds of clueless alleged experts who spout partisan nonsense about health care. Aires IMHO is not one of them. I have read what Dr. Ferdinando dos Reis Falcão has written in response to Aires' latest post. I agree with Dr. Falcão. I will ignore # 4 and 5 supra. Not only are they gratuitous, they are also quite ignorant and offensive examples of exuberant crap. I will also ignore #1 supra. It smacks of rank prejudice against and unreasonableness towards CM Parrikar. wrt #3: IMHO, Aires is NO shining example of an exponent of the 'equal protection' provided by Art 14 of the Indian Constitution. (Will expand if needed.) Hence, #3 also ignored. Aires may be right wrt #2. There, indeed, might be protection for civil servants including doctors under existing law ....or perhaps .. NOT. Will try access a copy of the Bill/Act when available. There must be a reason why this Bill has been presented to the Legislature. ps: Seriously disappointed (but not surprised) as I am at the numerous U-turns that CM Parrikar has taken since his retaking the CM's chair, I know of NO ONE who is electable + elected + better than him for Goa at the moment. If someone including Aires knows of that someone .....please advise. jc
