Thank you, RIchard.  Unfortunately, the issue is about creating an article 
document that includes a Gregorio score.  It seems I am unable to 
\usepackage[utf8]{inputenc}, which means I can’t use the “special characters.”

I am in no rush.  I am just looking to anticipate a problem that may come down 
the road (possibly years; e.g. I’m writing a paper about some German composer, 
Schütz, say, and need to include a Gregorio score).
