High security cover for International Film Festival in Goa
Panaji | November 19, 2005 \

With inputs of security threat from terrorist groups coming in, the Goa Police are sparing no effort to beef up security in the island state, particularly during the prestigious 11-day International Film Festival of India (IFFI) beginning here on November 24.
Top police sources told UNI today that authorities had even requisitioned Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the elite Rapid Action Force (RAF) for a special security cover besides training some of the officers in disposal of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) under the guidance of military experts.
Police are keeping a strict vigil in the view of last month's bomb blasts in New Delhi and stepped up violence in Jammu and Kashmir by Pakistan-based groups like Lashkar-e-Toiba, they said.
Services of other agencies, including the defence forces would be requisitioned if necessary, the sources said.
Kala Academy and the Inox multiplex, the main venue of the festival where invited dignitaries would congregate for the show, have already undergone security drill.
''Our main worry is Caranzalem beach front, where thousands of people throng to witness beach screening of films besides the food festival and a slew of megashows including laser shows and musical bands in the evening,'' said Deputy Inspector General (Crime) Ujjwal Mishra.
People have to put up with a little inconvenience of frisking and checking of the bags at the venues and co-operate with the specialised private agencies, including the ones appointed by the Entertainment Society of Goa, to ward off any untoward incident, he said.
Meanwhile, Mr Mishra, along with Superintendent of Police (Traffic) A V Deshpande, and Secretary (Information and Puiblicity) Debashre Mukherjee, unfolded a traffic facilitation plan for the film festival to mediapersons.
Special care had been taken to ensure that the people are put through least inconvenience, they added.

"Konkani is a popular spoken language has a particular merit from the psychological and sentimental point of views. I don't see any conflict between Marathi and Konkani. They stand on different levels. Marathi is a very developed and it will go on. But from the point of view, nevetherless, of mass popular use Konkani is there and Konkani should be encouraged. I never had been able to understand this conflict between languages; between two developed languages"
