            The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------

First up, are the Republicans making their stand on the last week before recess?

Sonia Sotomayor is on track to become the first Hispanic and third female
Supreme Court Justice in American history. However, the vote might fall on
partisan lines for the most part. How is the Senate debate going to go? In this
last week before recess, the Senate must also vote to fund the Cash for
Clunkers program that spent its allocated funds in one week. This hectic week
also had Former President Clinton making an unannounced trip to North Korea to
negotiate the release of the two journalists being detained. We'll play
Hardball on these topics with Senators Barbara Boxer (D-CA) and Judd Gregg
(R-NH).

Next up, Former President Clinton's visit to North Korea.

Today, Former President Clinton became the second former American President to
set foot in North Korea and the first to meet Kim Jong Il. What should the
Obama Administration expect out these negotiations? Is this the proper role
for Former President Clinton during this administration? We'll analyze the
visit with Washingtonpost.com's Chris Cillizza and Politico's Jeanne Cummings.
