Briar Rose is a wonderful book but definitely for mature audiences, although I
don't remember the gay Polish prince. We read it in an adult book club some
years ago and it was not too young.

Briar Rose by Jane Yolen is a Holocaust novel with a gay Polish prince who is
not Jewish.
Based on the reviews in LibraryThing, there may be a scene that is too explicit
for children.

Subject: [ha-Safran] Jewish children's lit question

Hello all:

I have been asked to write an article of sorts about the presence of Gay
characters in Jewish children’s literature. I don’t recall ever seeing this
type of thing, with the exception of that new Kar-Ben book about Purim that had
a family with two Dads. I would need examples of this in books for children up
to grade 9. Any suggestions?
