Hi All, University of Chicago recently had its 3rd reported fliering by white supremacists this academic year. Here's an article describing the most recent event: https://www.chicagomaroon.com/article/2017/3/10/man-caught-posting-racist-anti-semitic-fliers-issu/ As you all likely know, this is part of a national trend. See the ADL report: https://www.adl.org/blog/white-supremacists-on-campus-unprecedented-recruitment-efforts-underway?_ga=1.222407320.2081650680.1487797401
My question to the group is, What can libraries and librarians do in response? Some thoughts I've had include: 1. Drawing attention to the presence of materials by and in support of white supremacy in our collection during orientation tours/workshops 2. Curating exhibits that showcase marginalized groups or that highlight bigotry in canonical texts 3. Collaborating with faculty and students to organize forums to discuss the history of white supremacy in academia Thanks in advance for your thoughts, Anne Anne K.
