I wanted to respond to Phoebe's request regarding Jewish-themed children's
books featuring people of color. My company, Sociosights Press, released
"Almost a Minyan" on April 4th of this year. In the book, an eleven-year-old
girl watches her father go to daily minyan, wishing that one day she could join
him. The protagonist was deliberately made to be "generically colored," if such
a thing is possible. That is, she is possibly Sephardic, possibly African,
possibly Hispanic, she has, you should pardon the expression, a "Jewfro," and a
dark olive complexion. Her parents are depicted as biracial.

Heidi Rabinowitz did an amazing review with the author, Lori Kline and myself,
the publisher on her "Book of Life" podcast. The gorgeous illustrations are
done by Susan Simon. Feel free to email me off list with questions.
