In this lecture, Ben Ya’akov will explore how, despite sporadic contact between American Jews with Jewish communities in North Africa during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, North African Jews remained largely unknown and considered 'exotic' by American Jews. But the Holocaust and World War II changed the face of world Jewry and the perceptions of American Jews regarding world Jewry, including, for the first time, face to face contacts with North African Jews.
