The artists, activists, workers, wives, and mothers who helped create
Jewish American identity.
America's Jewish Women: From the poet Grace Seixas Nathan and her
great-granddaughter, Emma Lazarus, to labor organizer Bessie Hillman and
Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Jewish women have been at the forefront of causes
promoting suffrage, trade unions, civil rights, feminism, and Jewish rights
around the world. Pamela S. Nadell, the Patrick Clendenen Chair in Women’s
and Gender History and director of Jewish studies at American University,
attributes the advances made by Jewish American women to their strong sense
of self and a resolute commitment to making the world a better place.

Nadell will be joined in conversation by Gal Beckerman, a writer and editor
at The New York Times Book Review.

Sincerely,

Amanda
