The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications from dynamic 
individuals for the position of Visiting Special Collections Librarian to serve 
as an archivist for the Southern Nevada Jewish Community Digital Heritage 
Project for a period of 18 months.

PROFILE of the LIBRARIES and the SPECIAL COLLECTIONS DIVISION 
As a strong partner in student learning, UNLV Libraries fosters critical

outstanding digital collections, up-to-date technology and internationally 
renowned Special Collections, including two research centers: the Center for 
Gaming Research and the Oral History Research Center. University Libraries is

The UNLV Libraries Special Collections Division engages students, faculty, the 
community, and researchers world-wide in the interdisciplinary study of gaming, 
Las Vegas, and Southern Nevada. The Division collects and makes available a 
variety of unique and rare materials on these topics, including manuscripts, 
archives, photographs, oral histories, books, maps, architectural drawings, 
media materials, government documents, and serials. The Division is home to the 
Center for Gaming Research, the Oral History Research Center, an award-winning 
Digital Collections program, and the only professionally equipped and staffed 
preservation laboratory in Nevada.

ROLE of the POSITION 
This visiting faculty position, reporting to the Head, Special Collections 
Technical Services, will be responsible for acquiring and processing archival 
materials documenting the Jewish community in Southern Nevada. The librarian 
will assist the Director of Special Collections and the Project Coordinator in 
a documentation planning project, and will work closely with Jewish 
organizations and individuals to identify and acquire archival materials. The 
librarian will be responsible for appraising, accessioning, and processing 
collections in preparation for digitization. The librarian will create and 
maintain archival authority records, and will help select and write content for 
the web portal.

The Southern Nevada Jewish Community Digital Heritage Project involves multiple 
faculty and staff in a strategic archival collecting initiative, the collection 
of oral histories, and the creation of an online web portal that will provide 
online access to historical resources about Jewish life in the Las Vegas area. 
This three-year project is supported with private gifts and with grant funds 
from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

QUALIFICATIONS 
Required: A master's degree from a program accredited by the American Library 
Association and with coursework in archives; experience processing archival 
collections; knowledge of Describing Archives: A Content Standard; familiarity 
with Jewish culture; superior verbal and written communication skills; and 
excellent organizational and time management skills.

Preferred: Experience working with community groups and boards; experience 
working with donors; experience surveying, appraising, and accessioning 
archival records; experience employing minimal processing techniques; 
experience with ArchivesSpace; knowledge of EAC.

SALARY RANGE 
This is a full-time, 18-month, visiting faculty position. Salaries are 
competitive and dependent upon labor market. Position is contingent upon 
funding.
