Massey Functional Programming Workshop 1994
                       January 12 - 14, 1994

                 Call for Participation & Papers

The second Massey Functional Programming Workshop will be held at
Massey University, Palmerston North, New Zealand from the 12th to 14th
January 1994. This is the week *before* ACSC-17 in Christchurch to
enable people to attend both in one trip.

Program
=======

The workshop will follow the same format as MFPW-92, that is only
about 9 papers presented over the course of the three days with plenty
of time for discussion on each one (and other topics). This proved
very succesful last time.

Who should come?
================

Anybody actively working in functional programming or related areas of
research. The cost will be kept low to allow to enable postgraduate
students to attend - see below.

How do I register?
==================

If you would like to come please email [EMAIL PROTECTED] briefly
describing your area of work (students may like to give the name &
email address of their supervisor), and we will issue you with an
invite. This "by invite" policy is to help maintain the workshop
atmosphere and not to stop people coming (e.g. Haskell programmers :-)
:-) :-)). We are hoping that this year between 20 & 30 will attend.

How do I submit a paper?
========================

Papers will be considered in any area of research related to
functional programming. Selection will be made on both quality and the
suitability of the area for discussion. Please submit your paper to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] in Postscript, dvi, Mac Word, Mac Nisus, MacWrite
etc. formats - if in doubt email us and ask, we can read most things!
(But I *don't* like DOS...). Submissions should srrive my 1 Nov 93,
final camera ready copy will be required by 1 Dec 93 to enable
printing of the proceedings before the workshop. The proceedings will
be published by Massey University as an official publication (complete
with ISBN).

Paper format: A4, 2cm margins all around and no page numbers. Font:
sensible.

Recreation
==========

There will be some free time each day and on one day a four hour tramp
through the native New Zealand bush to the top of one of the local
mountains is planned (a few meters above sea-level to some 900m+),
weather permitting. Bring good walking shoes and waterproofs.

After the workshop we will arrange something enroute to Christchurch
for those going onto to ACSC-17. A whale spotting trip is being
considered for this, suggestions (sensible ones!) welcome.

Cost
====

The base cost of the workshop will probably be $15-20 to cover room
costs, proceedings and tea/coffee/biscuits. We are looking into group
booking for lunch, without this it will cost you $4-$10 depending on
choice/appetite.

B&B accomodation will be available in Massey Halls at about $45/night.
Free accomodation on floors (or beds if you're lucky) will also be
available, students get priority for this on a first-come-first-served
basis. Palmerston North has plenty of other accomodations if required.

I can't email you
=================

If you cannot email us for some reason and wish to use paper mail,
then write to: mfpw-94, Department of Computer Science, Massey
University, Palmerston North, New Zealand.

See you in January!
