AnimalVoicesALERT LETTER: Save the Grenada Dove From Extinction! Prepared letter on line (may be edited; see below): <http://actionnetwork.org/campaign/grenada?rk=C1LFtys1ofgIW>
Info Source: Center for Biological Diversity The government of Grenada, a small island in the Caribbean, is poised to privatize a national park to make way for a sprawling, deluxe Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts development. This will annihilate the endangered Grenada dove -- the country's National Bird -- of which only about 100 individuals remain in the world. Tell Four Seasons management to keep Mt. Hartman National Park protected so that the embattled dove has a chance for survival. ~~~~~~~~Letter Preview~~~~~~~edited/Judy. Mr. Isadore Sharp, Chairman and CEO CC: Oppostion Leader Tillman Thomas, Chairman Bill Gates Dear [decision maker name automatically inserted here], I understand that the Four Seasons plans to build a luxury resort in much of the last remaining habitat of the critically imperiled Grenada Dove. This plan must be scrapped. As planned, the hotel complex and golf course, with their heavy footprint, will almost certainly drive the species extinct-a tragedy that will alienate the very same tourists who would otherwise be drawn to the facility. Claims by Mr. Pemberton and his environmental consultant that the dove would remain protected if Mt. Hartman National Park is privatized are based on "research" that lacks scientific rigor and credibility and greatly understates the damage the resort (as now proposed) would do to the Grenada dove's survival prospects; the developers' plan provides for no effective means of legal or on-the-ground protection of the dove's habitat. With fewer than 100 doves in existence, there's no room for error. Don't build in a way that will foul the Four Seasons' image for good. Driving to extinction Grenada's National Bird for the sake of a few tourist dollars will look very bad for Four Seasons, as well as for its partners in this ill-conceived enterprise. ~~~~~~~~Letter end~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~> You are invited to read past articles and alerts, subscribe, or unsubscribe or email with subject "subscribe" or "unsubscribe."
