Pleased to inform that in conjunction with the 44th Merdeka celebrations, the
following events will be held:
A. KONSERT AMBANG MERDEKA
Venue : Esplanade, KLCC Park
Date : Thursday, 30 August 2001
Time : 9.00pm - 12.30am
Artistes : Sheila Majid, Jamal Abdillah & Intan Sarafina among others
Concert begins at 9.00pm with an opening performance by PETRONAS Performing
Arts Group followed by artistes' performances and a Light Show, then a
Countdown to midnight to herald the 44th Merdeka Day and chants of
'MERDEKA'; The National Flag will then be raised to the accompaniment of
the patriotic song 'Negaraku' followed by a brilliant display of Fireworks
and Light Show. Ceremony ends with the song 'Sejahtera Malaysia' by all
artistes.
For the convenience of concert-goers and park visitors, the PUTRA - LRT
services will be extended to 2.00 a.m.
B. SEA GAMES TORCH RUN (DAY 1 - 31 st August 2001)
At 5.15pm, 100 runners will start off the run in front of ISETAN's entrance.
The SEA GAMES torch will be passed to PETRONAS runner, ZAKI SADRI by YB
Dato' Dr Seri Sulaiman Mohamed and the runners will make a run around the
KLCC Park. The ceremony ends at 6.45pm with the torch being passed to
PETRONAS President, YBhg Tan Sri Hassan Marican where it will be placed on a
stand at the DFP foyer.
C. KONSERT SURIA MERDEKA
Venue : Open Space at the fringe of the KLCC Park next to the Entrance
to the Car and Truck Tunnel
Date : Friday, 31 August 2001
Time : 9.00pm - 12.30am
Artistes : Tan Sri Dato' S M Salim, Noraniza Idris, Nora, Awie,
Shafinaz, Poetic Ammo,
Siti Nurhaliza
Concert kicks off with an opening performance by the PETRONAS Cultural
Troupe followed by artistes' performances. A Tower Light Show will also be
held.
D. SEA GAMES TORCH RUN (DAY 2 - 1st September 2001)
At 3.30 pm, the Torch will be passed to 100 Torch runners who will proceed
to Jalan P.Ramlee and head towards Ming Court. They will be accompanied by
the Tsun Tien School Band.
