Just an update;
I decided the just try the firmware update from HP's Windows XP driver/software support and installed it using the HP Utility. No problems, it is quite a large firmware and takes a while to download & install. Probably an hour start to finish. I then went the HP's Vista driver/software support and installed the latest version (8.0.0.5) via the HP Utility. Again, no problems with updating.
