Hello,

http://hplip.sourceforge.net/howtos/faxing.html
reads that the fax queue is stopped when a user "prints"
a document directly into the fax queue but for me using
HPLIP 1.6.10 with CUPS 1.2 (on AMD 64-bit) it works.

When different users "print" documents into the fax queue
they wait in the queue until the HPLIP fax utility is started
to get them actually faxed.

But I detected two problems here:

1.
It seems to work only when the user who had "printed" the
first document into the fax queue starts the HPLIP fax utility.
Then all usres can select their specific documents in the
HPLIP fax utility to get them actually faxed.

If another user who had "printed" a subsequent document into
the fax queue starts the HPLIP fax utility, he cannot select
his document in the HPLIP fax utility to get it actually faxed.
But when now the first user who had "printed" the first document
into the fax queue starts the HPLIP fax utility for both users
their respective document(s) appears in their respective
HPLIP fax utility GUI.

I.e. it seems that the first document in the fax queue prevents
all other users who had "printed" subsequent documents to actually
fax them until the first user started the HPLIP fax utility.

2.
When the users start the HPLIP fax utility but do not actually
fax their documents but simply close the HPLIP fax utility
(and exit the hp-toolbox), it seems the documents get silently
lost.

They are neither in the fax queue (CUPS shows them via
"lpstat -W completed" i.e. for CUPS they are done)
nor do they re-appear when the HPLIP fax utility was re-started.

I think they should "survive" even if for example the hplip
services are stopped and re-started (e.g. because of a reboot).

Kind Regards
Johannes Meixner
