From the release notes:

HPLIP 1.6.6 - This release has the following changes.
HPLIP has reached 1.0 status. With this release we start using a new date
encoded revision number.
x.y.m
x = major release number
y = year (ie: 6=2006)
m = month (ie: 6=June)

Internal releases (test releases) are in the form:

x.y.m.b

where b is the build number.

So, 1.7.1 is the Jan 2007 build, with a major release number of 1.

What is the status of release 1.7.1? Is it a test release, a
development release, a stable release?

What does the major number change signify?

Thanks,
Tim.
