Hello,

I've been having issues printing with my Deskjet D4160. I'm running Arch
Linux (fully updated as of today). I have attached my hp-check.log as
requested. And I wish to report that I've had the same issues while using
my previous distro, Ubunty 7.04 Feisty Fawn.

Here are my observations: 1) The D4160 prints normally after a reboot of
the whole system, but only for the first print job. 2) The printer behaves
the following way on the 2nd print job and each successive one: When a
document is sent to the print queue, the printer remains idle (no obvious
physical activity) for approximately 45 seconds to 1 minute. The printer
feeds the paper about 2 inches, and then stalls for another 15-30 seconds.
Finally, the printer prints normally, finishing the print job and performing
its normal shutdown routine. Print jobs never fail, but there are two long
"stalls" in the middle of the process.

I have tried restarting CUPS to see if that fixes the problem, but it
doesn't. I suspect this problem is related to udev, but I can't figure it
out. I've read about people having issues with permissions, but I don't
know which files to check out.

I have a good representative snippet of the CUPS error log, set to "LogLevel
Debug", that I could attach in a future post. It is approx. 52 KB in size.
Or would it be better to paste the error log into the body of the email?

I can provide as many details about my system as necessary, if they are
needed to lead to a resolution.

----

Also, if this is the appropriate place for a feature request, I would like
to request an option for a 300x300 dpi resolution setting for this printer.
I use this resolution for the D4160 all the time when I print in Windows XP,
and I would be grateful if this resolution setting could be added to the
D4160s ppd.

Thanks for your support,

Patrick
