Thanks to Marco, I think we discovered the problem. We should get rid of
'AM_MAINTAINER_MODE' in the configure.in file. I can't run it now (as I
am leaving for Australia today) but I will do it hopefully at the end of
the week (early next week - if I am jet lag). :-)
