Greetings Robert, Yes, most of the htdig.org docs are for the latest release, 3.1.6, but the FAQ is continually updated, and covers the latest beta as well (possibly inconsistently). Once we get our efficiency problem sorted out, we'll be able to release 3.2.0, and update all the docs on htdig.org.
The "->text/html" in external_parsers specifies an "external converter", as described in htdoc/attrs.html. I'm not sure what the user means by "the HTML doc of htdig.conf". It is hard to explain what the isolated "(is the default)" means, since I don't know where the user is quoting from... I agree that the default location to search should be the user's own system. That should be fixed by the release candidate, but I mess things up whenever I change the configure script :( Thanks for the feedback about the documentation.
