You have already been very helpful in testing on OS X. There is lots that can be done that doesn't involve programming, if you have time. As well as testing, the documentation could be greatly improved. Your suggestions on user-friendliness are also very constructive. If you (or anyone else reading this!) would like to help without programming, you could design a complete GUI, specifying things like what the user does, what defaults to use, how to hide the complexity but still allow flexibility, and how it records/updates comments in the htdig.conf file. Perhaps then someone who knows PHP could write a script to implement your spec.
