Ciao Stefan,
instead of recompiling, you can try setting different configuration
files, such as vh1.conf, vh2.conf, etc.; then specify different
configuration files to use through the 'config' variable of the HTML search
form.
Just put an hidden variable in the form like this:
<input type="hidden" name="config" value="vh1">
