"COAL GEOLOGY AND EXPLORATION" Date : November 28 - 29, 2004 (Sunday - Monday) Overview : Exploration is one of the most important activities within the chain of coal mining business. The aim of an exploration program is to find an economic coal mine, and to collect data and information to be used in the feasibility study for the coal mining project. Exploration programs, therefore, should be carried out by geologists and engineers with adequate knowledge of coal geology and the application of appropriate techniques in the exploration itself. This coal geology and exploration course provides the knowledge and technique for young geologists and engineers involved in coal businesses. The course consists of two parts: day 1 for coal geology, and day 2 for coal exploration technique. Day 1 : Coal Geology Coal geology will be discussed on the basis of description, interpretation, and prediction of coal occurrences and the distribution of coal bearing strata (coal measures) and the coal seams contained within the formation. This subject will be focused on coal seam correlations, geometry and thickness variations of coal seams, quality variations of coal seams, and geotechnical characteristics of interburden and overburden strata. Topics : Introduction to Coal Geology | Coal Basins in Indonesia | Sedimentary facies in Indonesian Coal Measures | Stratigraphy and sedimentology of interseam clastic sedimentary rocks | Structures and sedimentology of coal seams | Coal Petrology | Depositional models of Indonesian coal deposits Day 2 : Coal Exploration This subject will be focused on the application of coal geology and exploration techniques to find a coal mine. Topics : Coal exploration strategy | Stages in coal exploration | Methods and techniques in coal exploration | Procedures and techniques of coal sampling | Correlation and modeling of coal seams (geometry and coal quality) | Coal resources/reserves and coal quality estimation | Reporting coal exploration results Venue : Horizon Hotel, Bandung Instructor : Chairul Nas, Ir, Msc, Dr (Univ. Trisakti) Hadiyanto, Dr (SDM) * Sonny Trisunu Pangestu (Arutmin) * Who Should Attend: Young geologists and engineers involved in coal businesses should attend this course Participant : Min 12, Max 20 persons Cost : Rp. 2.000.000,- include: course material, meal and certificate Registration Date line : November 1, 2004 !!! -------------------------------------------- For further information please contact : Ikatan Ahli Geologi Indonesia (IAGI) Gd.
