I seem to recall a thread not too long ago where someone was asking for
sites that had implemented Hiperbatch.  You might want to check the
archives.  These tools should still be valid.  Some of these tools require a
specific need/setup (Hiperbatch).  For general buffering, SMB is a good
place to start, I guess.  If you are looking for an automated process, there
are several vendors that offer performance (LSR, NSR, etc) products for
batch processing.  We offer Velociraptor.  Feel free to email me offline if

And yes we are having performance problems.  Actually, I think we are just
