As other already mentioned, LPAR definition is the same for z/OS and z/VM (the distinction is between OS nad CF).
OS config contains distinction between MVS and VM type.

However, especially when using Linux under VM, it is worth to mention how to "isolate" MVS devices from VM. It can be done via "Explicite device list" - at LPAR level, while z/OS is usually filtered at OS config level. First method is at IOS level, while OS config can be changed on operating system (and Linux does not honor it).
