Hi! Everyone
Here are the minutes of january meeting of linux user
group delhi, conducted at Faridabad Industry
association. I had tried to be serious at the places
where important things are discussed. So here are the
minutes of meetings
-------------------------------------------------------

Recording for minutes of meting was started when I
(vivek khurana) reached the venue half an hour late
after wandering in faridabad for half an hour trying
to locate venue and counting 6 redlights. In the venue
there were more press persons than linux delhi
members. Only 4 linux delhi members reached the venue
till 1:30 pm. Sudev showed his love for matri bhasha
by distributing press release in English for hindi
newspapers. So after waiting and gossiping it was
decided that we should start the meet. Sudev started
by introducing himself, and forcing others to
introduce themselves.
Sudev told the audience how he got trapped in linux.
He kept wondering through out his introduction that
why linux is ignored even when it has such a low cost
of switching and operation. After that it was the turn
of vivek to intoduce himself. He bored the audience
for few minutes, discussing a skirmish he had in the
morning with a manager of a big software firm of the
country (read the name of company i...). Following
vivek khurana came rahul kumar, who works in java on
linux. Introducing himself he became senty about why
open source community runs away from java. After
calming him down it was turn of a tyre checker Mr.
Arvind who just had bumped into the meeting as it was
being conducted in faridabad. He scared the young
computer users with the names of ancient computers and
archaic operating systems. During his introduction
Kishore 'treasurer' Bhargawa reached the venue. So he
was the next one to be introduced. Kishore started by
<snip>“boasting”</snip> that he had being using linux
even before Linus Trovalds and how he got linux kernel
in yr 1992 in India. He advocated the redhat
"unstable" fedora before taking his seat. The
remaining introductions were short one line intros
each one describing there trysts and terrors with
linux. During the last phase of introductions Raj
mathur arrived according to Indian Stretchable Time at
3 pm.
The first agenda item was an introduction to open
source software by Raj. Raj opened his age-old
presentation. He started with his, why what when and
blah blah and demonstrated his hands up and down
actions. The boredom continued for an hour till the
audience and Raj got fed up of the presentation.
Reading the mood of the meeting sudev announced a tea
break.
The menu turned out to be a shahri one instead of
expected (by me), dehati lassi/chaach, pakode and
aaloo ke parodthe. All the members had samosas,
dhokla, barfi and sophisticated dip-dip tea. So after
few minutes of useless discussions everyone went back
to the meeting hall.

Sudev brar started with his LTSP demo, with Anand
holding the mouse to click for next slide. He started
with discussion of basics such as GUI, tools etc.
Discussion reached RAID tools, Raj suggested against
using software RAID and also suggested using only one
set of standardized tools to reduce memory
loading/requirements. Sudev showed that you need only
2MB of video memory to run LTSP client. At this
juncture RAJ came up with following formula to decide
the video memory required
(resolution * no. of bits of depth)/ 8
Following the invention of formula and nomination for
Raj for Nobel Prize in mathematics, sudev described
how to setup LTSP server and clients and showed how
policy manipulation on the server is reflected on each
client. After description, there was a live demo of
LTSP client boot. The presentation continued with
demonstration of export features of openoffice. This
presentation ended with discussion of cost involved in
setting up LTSP project.

The second agenda taken up was demo of hindi on linux
by Anand. Demo was shown on fedora with hindi written
in Bangla(on initial screen). Demo continued with
anand showing Gnome menus and application names in
hindi. Here anand suggested following three approaches
for translation.
1. Use original English words and type them in hindi
2. Translate every word to hindi
3. Translate everything conceptually and rename
everything.

Anand went to show some typing in hindi and how to
learn typing in hindi with help of inscription
keyboard. The presentation ended with anand
demonstrating string conversion using Gtranslator.
Soon after the end of presentaion the meting was
called of by sudev brar when he got fed up with the
translation of English gnome menus to mumbaiaa hindi
by Raj, Kishore and vivek.
For organizing the meet, Raj awarded the "alankaar"
of Mr. to sudev so, now he will be called Mr. Sudev .
So who so ever is reading these minutes of meetings
please re-read them with prefixing Mr everywhere Mr.
Sudev's name appears.

Date for next meets was decided as 22nd feb with
tarun dua agreeing on a presentation of java
development on linux. After this, all of us went home
hoping that some day sudev brar oops Mr. Sudev Brar
will stop threating to learn linux, SPOONMAN will give
the demo of games on linux and JAVA User Group meeting
will occur, some day “who meeting kabhi to aayegi”.

with regards
vivek
