Call for Applications Theme: Islamic Philosophy and Epistemology/Philosophy of Religion Type: MA Position Institution: Theology, Science, and Knowledge Project, University of Missouri–St. Louis (UMSL) Location: St. Louis, MO (USA) Date: 2019–2021 Deadline: 28.2.2019 __________________________________________________ The Theology, Science, and Knowledge project at the University of Missouri – St Louis (UMSL), funded by the John Templeton Foundation, invites applications for a fully funded M.A. position in the Department of Philosophy. The 2-year position begins at the start of the Fall 2019 semester and ends at the conclusion of the Spring 2021 semester. It carries full tuition remission, benefits, and a $15,000 stipend per year. The successful candidate will be expected to complete the requirements for the M.A. degree in philosophy at UMSL, and work (approx. 10 hrs/week) as a research assistant for the project co-PIs, Billy Dunaway and Jon McGinnis. The Theology, Science, and Knowledge project aims to foster interaction between research in medieval Islamic philosophy and contemporary philosophical issues, especially in epistemology. Preference will be given to applicants who (i) have demonstrated research interests on the project theme (including Islamic philosophy and epistemology) and will complete an M.A. thesis on the topic; (ii) can work efficiently and effectively as a research assistant to search archives, scan texts, summarize research, manage a website, and coordinate travel; (iii) has the ability to complete the M.A. program in philosophy with distinction, and (iv) shows promise of the potential to promote the project goals through research and outreach after the conclusion of the project.
