Call for Papers Theme: Alisher Navoi Subtitle: Bringing Peoples Together Through the Centuries Type: International Conference Institution: Institute of Asia and Africa, Lomonosov Moscow State University Faculty of History, National University of Uzbekistan Location: Online Date: 30.3.2021 Deadline: 23.3.2021 __________________________________________________ We would like to invite you to take part in the International Conference “Alisher Navoi. Bringing People Together Through the Centuries ”, dedicated to the 580th anniversary of the birth of Alisher Navoi. It is organized by the Institute of Asia and Africa of Lomonosov Moscow State University in collaboration with the Faculty of History of the National University of Uzbekistan named after M. Ulugbek. The announcement of this conference is a declaration of a new stage of scientific integration, initiated by the National University of Uzbekistan named after M. Ulugbek, in the context of the anniversary of the great poet and thinker Alisher Navoi. Our working committee helped shape the initial objectives of the conference, including the relevance of innovative comparative studies and a synthesis of historical depth, theoretical knowledge to represent poetics in our challenging post-pandemic times. We believe that Alisher Navoi had an expansive vision, since he was at the forefront of the globalization in the urban centers of Maverannahr. It was based on poetic circulation between the metropolitan regions, from Herat and Bukhara to Samarkand, Delhi, Shiraz, Ganja, Mecca, including rural provinces and nomadic units. Moreover, the "city" in Navoi’s view was at the center of large-scale circles, without thereby turning into a center of corporate power. The discussion on the topic: “alisher Navoi. Bringing Peoples Together Through the Ages”, allows us to understand the degree of versatility and innovation of this initiator of the combination of science, ethics, art and philosophy through the prism of poetry. The poet’s collections of poems contain approximately 50,000 lines. He was the author of the image of Farhad, who brought healing water for a thirsty people. In addition, Alisher Navoi presented a monumental source, recognized by all Central Asian’s historians: "Majalis al-Nafais" ("Collection of prominent figures") - biographical sketches of more than 450 poets of that time. Many Navoi’s gazelles were and remain popular among the peoples of Eurasia, turning into songs. They remain beloved among the peoples of Central Asia. The conference will be held online (technically managed from Moscow, from the Institute of Asia and Africa, Lomonosov Moscow State University). The theme of the conference allows you to slide between languages and peoples, Sufi brotherhoods and institutions of government, poets and their books. This vision is especially suitable for online conference that brings together the works of Alisher Navoi and his contemporaries, not by moving researchers around, but by creatively connecting and expanding our understanding through discussion and scientific discourses. Main areas of discussion - Section 1: Reflection of Alisher Navoi’s legacy through the prism of today’s challenges of Central Asia and the world In the course of the session’s work, participants will be discussing the poetical/historical and philosophical heritage of Alisher Navoi. At the same time, it is planned to pay special attention to the reflection of all this huge mosaic on the “rapprochement of Central Asian’s peoples through the centuries”. - Section II: Alisher Navoi and the formation of a new intellectual environment Participants will be discussing the process of diversity of performative, aesthetic, critical and educational discourses of the Navoi era, and design of the new intellectual environment of Maverannahr.
