Note that Paulo isn't the author of the book, I am ;-) He has been helping me out many times while I was writing it though! I haven't been following the discussion 'in real-time', I just went looking in the archives to see what this is all about. I now see that the problem that is mentioned is not really an iText(Sharp) related question; it's a common .NET exception (I encounter similar exceptions in Java every day). >Could the problem, perhaps be, that >you just don't have an adequate answer? > > Meanwhile the question has been answered. Granted, maybe Paulo could have given you the answer straight away, but we are only human. We combine the work we do on iText(Sharp) for free with a demanding dayjob. We know we waste (y)our time if we lose our temper, but if only you knew how many questions are sent to us that never reach the mailinglist, you would certainly forgive us. Only yesterday I received a very angry mail saying I was an unfriendly person. That saddens me, because in real life, I am not like that (nor is Paulo); it's just that some people ask the wrong question at the wrong moment :( On such moments I tend to forget about the hundreds of people that have thanked Paulo and me for making iText(Sharp) a free library. I have even gone on strike once, because somebody mailed me: ur name's all over the itext forums.. seemed like u had alot of time.. u sure u have a job? Regulars of the mailing list will recognize these sentences, they were sent to me on May 19 and it still hurts if I think about them. We are just two idealistic developers; we are not a commercial company with a public relations office screening everything we say or do. So please bear with us. We're doing the best we can. >So, Paulo, if I am "too newbie", perhaps the time has come for you to stand >in front of the mirror when you point the finger at the one responsible. > > The architecture of iText has evolved almost organically. It is based on the Builder pattern. There may be some design decision that seem awkward to somebody, but saying that this is a design flaw of iText(Sharp) is really a bridge too far. You should know more about the internals of PDF before you make a judgement about that. If this mail offended you in any way, I sincerely apologize, I just wanted to clarify some things that really matter to me. best regards, Bruno ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Using Tomcat but need to do more?
