You get the nicest results writing your own SAX handler. The PDF shown in the screenshots on this page were generated that way: http://itext.ugent.be/articles/ects-ict/index.php?page=3#start This XML: http://itext.ugent.be/articles/ects-ict/resources/studyprogram.xml was converted into this PDF: http://itext.ugent.be/articles/ects-ict/resources/studyprogram.pdf Instead of class Table, class PdfPTable was used. What I meant by not going from Ghent to Brussels via Paris, is that you are making your project needlessly complex by making XML files using the non existent iText DTD. If you don't have XML, don't use it. If you have XML, use your own custom DTDs and write a handler that is able to understand your DTD.
