setField() knows nothing about formatting. If you want formating you
should provide it and know when to provide it. Some examples with MAXLEN
3:
setField(name, "abcde") shows "abc" and stores "abc"
setField(name, "12345", "$skeifeif") shows "$skeifeif" and stores "123"
