I have seen this several times.
Let me guess: You are using an HP printer driver?
The problem is in the printer driver.
I don't know why they don't fix it, cause it's really annoying.
It's been around for a couple of years now.
The workaround is to print the pdf again.
You don't even have to re-open the document.

I'm using iText 1.3.1 which creates a PDF version of 1.4. Problem is
that Adobe Reader 9.0 and up will sometimes print the document in a
gibberish format (one ASCII character up.) The odd thing is that the
Adobe document will display properly on the screen and also the
problem is sporadic. Also with Adobe 8.0 or below we have no issues.
Has anyone experienced this before? Would it have anything to do with
the PDF version being 1.4?
